What can I say besides it was absolutely gorgeous. I spent everyday sitting on the tops of cliffs, looking at the view, sipping on wine, tanning poolside, watching out for donkey stampedes, and watching the sunset. And I ate. Greek food is DOPE.
This was literally one of my days: I walked to the grocery store to buy a croissant. Then I walked about a kilometer to Fira and grabbed some delicious Greek coffee at a cafe. I stopped in a bakery to try some baklava and kataifi. Then I walked to grab a $3 gyro, wrapped in soft pita bread and stuffed with cool greek yogurt and vegetables and french fries. Then I went to a restaurant to have a piece of chocolate cake/banana dessert and a glass of white wine while I looked at the view and enjoyed the breeze. I basically fulfilled my childhood Sister of the Traveling Pants Greek fantasy. It was just bliss.
I stayed in Hotel Pension George, which was spotlessly clean and a ten minute walk to the capital, Fira. From Fira, you can take a twenty minute or so busride to Oia, with its iconic blue churches. If I ever go back I would maybe rent a car or scooter so I could see the whole island easier. You can also hike from Fira to Oia which takes a few hours. If you ever have the chance to visit Europe then really, why would you choose to go anywhere besides Greece??
